SASCA Conference in Rome

The 30th January in the Chamber of Deputes in Rome takes place the Conference Children Mistreated in Care Institutions: individual trauma and system responsibilities.

The conference will discuss the issue of child abuse in institutional settings starting from the voices of children, now adults, survivors of this extremely serious kind of mistreatment.

The events that were analyzed – In Italy Forteto event with more than 80 children placed for three decades, in Ireland  the Magdalene Laundries, in Greece and Romania the abuses in residential care institutions – are serious violation of human rights of children and other vulnerable subjects.

The event will be an opportunity for reflection and debate on the characteristics of this kind of mistreatment, on the need to define an effective intervention model to support survivors, on prevention strategies, on the responsibility that institutions must assume and about the inadequacy of legislative tools available to face this kind of child mistreatment.
